Essential Components of a Home Theater System

  • A TV
Most of today's TVs are digital TVs which offer a spectacular picture, and many sets can show the high-resolution picture you get from HDTV.

  • Surround Sound Processors
The easiest way to enjoy home theater is using an integrated receiver. One of these would include a built-in surround sound processor, preamp, and amplifier.

  • DVD Player
Many DVD players include on-board Dolby Digital, DTS, and Dolby Pro Logic II decoding. Some may include surround-encoded material on cable-TV, DSS satellite TV, LD laser disc, CD, and DVD-Audio.

  • Home Theater Speakers
The minimum requirement for surround sound formats is five speakers to wrap the sound completely around you: front left, front right, center, surround left, surround right. Some systems have the ability to provide you with seven channels of surround information by adding two additional channels of information to the sides of the listener. The seven channel theater systems will increase your sense of a three-dimensional soundstage, completely immersing you in the soundtrack.

  • Cables
To improve the and video performance select the audiophile-type cables instead of using the cheap 'patch cords' that come with some home theater components.

  • Power Protection
To safeguard home theater system from lightning strikes and power surges. Some have built-in line conditioning to ensure cleaner power, a better picture, and more accurate audio.

  • Powered Subwoofers
An  appropriate size subwoofer with an adequate amount of power is extremely important to ensure it will be able to keep pace with the rest of your system. A subwoofer brings you hyper-realistic thunder, explosions and musical scores.
