Introduction

Ultra density optical (UDO) is an optical storage device that uses blue laser-based technology to write and read data. UDO was first introduced to the data storage market in late 2003, initially offers a revolutionary 30GB of storage capacity on a single 130mm cartridge.

Available in both a Rewritable and Write-Once media formats, UDO is the recognized successor to 5.25" Magneto Optical (MO) storage; meeting international, commercial and governmental archival regulations. It is certified and accepted as a worldwide data storage standard by ISO, IEC and ECMA organizations, UDO offers both data and long-term investment protection with a future upgrade path to 60GB in 2007 and 120GB by 2010.

  • UDO Rewritable media is used for more general archive requirements that demand data longevity while allowing older records to be erased and media space reused.

  • UDO Write Once media enables regulatory compliance, best practice and audit trail management and is ideal for applications that require records be archived in an unalterable, non-erasable format for legal admissibility.

Features and Benefits

UDO delivers all the traditional strengths expected from optical storage such as record authenticity and media longevity, but at a much higher capacity and lower cost than previous generation products.

  • Higher Capacities
3x the capacity of Magneto-Optical (MO) and DVD, UDO allows customers to minimize the number of disks required to store archived data. Both media formats can store 30 GB of data on a single disk.

  • Lower cost per GB
UDO delivers the highest level of data integrity and trustworthiness with exceptional Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). Its media stores up to three times the data at 84% less than the cost of MO per GB.

  • Faster Access Times
Customers can access their data 33% faster than MO with up to 8 MB per second transfer rates.

  • Standards
Certified and accepted as a worldwide data storage standard by ISO, IEC and ECMA organizations.

  • Unique design
Designed specifically for the secure, long-term storage of high volume document images, emails, customer records, audio or video files, financial information and engineering documentation. Unlike magnetic storage media, UDO tolerates a wide range of environmental conditions and can be safely stored for many years in a typical office environment. A highly stable Phase Change recording technology delivers media life in excess of 50 years, minimizing the frequency of data migration and virtually eliminating media maintenance.

Environment that Best fits UDO Technology

UDO is an ideal choice for both short and long term archival data storage requirements. Thousands of organizations worldwide trust UDO for the archival storage of their valuable business information including: broadcasters, healthcare providers, e-commerce, bank,  government,  law enforcement, military, insurance companies, and retail customers worldwide.
